In my last post, I questioned why naming stuff is so hard. I wrote an entire post elaborating on that topic in a multitude of ways…and then I picked the simplest possible name for this site. Gotta love plot twists, right?

For those paying close attention, you might recall that I was supposed to have three names ready by 10 April 2021, not just one. First, I really appreciate you reading this blog! Second, I did meet that deadline! Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a bit for the unveiling. I’ve got the domain names, but I still have some cleanup to do before I’m ready to discuss those projects.

In the meantime, let’s discuss the name of this site. Why did I pick mmcd.io? Why not something like “Old McDonald had a blog” (Yes, I’m questioning it too—I just came up with that but darn if it isn’t fun)? Ultimately, it boiled down to two factors. The first factor was the deadline; I had to pick something by that date, and I did. The second, and more important factor, was that I remembered how much time I spent trying to come up with a good domain name.

That’s when it all dawned on me. I remembered how excited I was to register the domain. I remembered how cool I thought the URL sounded. I remembered why I spent so much time on that domain name to begin with. Why was I trying to waste all that effort?

Truthfully, I think anxiety was getting to me again. I had to remind myself once again that sometimes you just need to hit publish. So, here we are!
